Examples of people who have made it in business after 50 years old are plenty. Because at an age when most might be ready to retire, some people turn 50 and decide it’s time to start a whole new chapter in their life. Whether it’s to supplement their 401K or leave a legacy for their family, it certainly isn’t unheard of.
Here is an example of an entrepreneur who didn’t let age scare them away from reaching for new dreams later in life. Not only did she shatter the gender glass ceiling, she also knocked through the age ceiling as well.
To be sure, this intrepid individual did well earlier in life, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to do something more. Let’s meet this inspirational entrepreneur.
Jill Boehler’s Story
Jill Boehler, 66, described herself as a “do gooder.” She spend her early career as a speech pathologist. Then, one day she got a sudden inspiration to make “portable shawls” which are essentially wraps that come in a bag.
The idea came to her one day as she sat in a restaurant and found herself shivering. So, at 54, she decided she wanted to do something about it.
Today, Boehler operates Chilly Jilly, and as of 2010 she had sold 500,000 units. Currently, Boehler works with 20 private contractors across the country.
Boehler found that starting after 50 was perfect because she didn’t have to worry about kids. Her schedule was all hers.
