A clean business is a happy business

Running a franchise business is a lot of work. Between all of the bill paying, employee onboarding, and corporate meetings you still have to find time to keep your operation in tip-top shape. Unfortunately, cleaning is one of those important tasks that can quickly fall by the wayside. With spring quickly approaching, we thought now would be the perfect time to remind you that a clean business is a happy business.

Entrances and Exits. Your windows and doors are one of the first things that a new customer sees upon arriving at your business. If the glass is smudged or covered in grime, you may leave the wrong impression. Take time to clean your windows and door handles throughout the day. Keeping your entrances and exits clean and tidy is an easy way to make customers feel welcome.

Floors, Counters and Seating Areas. Have you ever visited a restaurant where the tables were covered in dried condiments, grains of salt or discarded straw wrappers? Yuck! Establish a cleaning routine for all of the surfaces in your establishment. Once someone gets up to leave, have an employee ready to wipe the table or counter down with warm, soapy water. Make sure your condiments, napkins, silverware and straw containers are regularly filled and regularly monitor your backroom inventory as well. Finally, don’t forget to regularly mop and sweep the floors; there’s nothing worse than sticky shoes.

Bathrooms. A 2017 study by Simple Marketing Now found that 79% of Americans said they would not return to a restaurant with a dirty restroom. Another 45% of customers said they would no longer shop in a retail store with dirty restrooms. As you can see, if you want to keep customers happy, clean bathrooms are absolutely necessary. Establish a cleaning routine for these areas of your business, too. Regularly stock items like toilet paper, Kleenex and paper towels, and make sure you have a good plumber on call if necessary.
